Far North Queensland has its own LGBT Resource Centre in Cairns called ‘Base Camp’ for the use of community members and groups. It is situated at 290 Draper Street, just a few minutes’ walk from Cairns Central Shopping Centre, under the pointed green roof right next door to Bob Jane T Mart.
‘Base Camp’ offers a large training room available for the community to hold meetings and workshops, and a smaller room for interviews etc. Computers, a photocopier and other office equipment are available for community groups and individuals to use. There is a small but growing library of gay reading, videos and CDs for both boys and girls. A full kitchen is available to cater for centre functions, and a spacious outdoor carpark area is suitable for community group barbecues.
· The LGBT choir practices on Mondays from 5pm. Enquiries welcome.
· A number of LGBTI health and support groups meet regularly.
