I began working on the "One Community Celebrating Diversity" campaign early this year. This was a community campaign to examine how much prejudice happens in the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community by other LGBT people. During the course of this campaign I have learnt a lot about prejudice, and I have to admit to sometimes being surprised by what I have learnt!!For example, I never expected to learn that over 90% percent of the community believed that this type of prejudice does happen. And I never expected to learn that over 50% of the community have had this type of prejudice inflicted on them. Fifty percent!! One out of every two of my freinds in the community! That's amazing! But I have also learnt that the majority of the community want to see this type of prejudice stop, and that they believe the best way to prevent it is to firstly bring it out in to the open (which I hope this campaign will help to do) and also by increasing the visibility and knowledge of the groups who are experiencing this. What I want to know is . . what else can we do to try and prevent LGBT people discriminating against other LGBT people? What do you think? Any ideas?
