2 Spirits program review

The 2 Spirits Program was established in 1996 as part of the Queensland Association for Healthy Communities to raise awareness of HIV/AIDS and other blood borne viruses within Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans) communities.

After 15 years of operation, the program has now been reviewed to determine the appropriateness of current and past operations and to determine potential future directions for 2 Spirits.

Consultants Bill O’Loughlin and Gregory Phillips worked tirelessly to interview community members, Elders, previous and current employees, funding bodies, clients and representatives from other non-government organisations to bring together this review.

The review has created 23 recommendations for the program to consider for the future, which will give 2 Spirits a structure for future programming. Interestingly, some of these recommendations are already being implemented.

Congratulations from the 2 Sprits team to both consultants – Bill O’Loughlin and Gregory Phillips - and to all people who have made this project as successful as it is.
