Prejudice

One Community Celebrating Diversity

What is QAHC doing?

During the 2007 Pride Festival QAHC will be running a community campaign based on the theme of prejudice towards lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people based on ethnicity or culture, disability, gender, age or HIV/AIDS, by other LGBT people within the community.

The campaign is called the "One Community Celebrating Diversity" campaign.

During the course of this campaign, we have come to recognise that besides these obvious areas of discrimination, people are also being discriminated against based on other factors. These include things such as the fact that you are a gay man or lesbian woman with children, your religion or spiritual beliefs, or based on that fact that you don’t fit into the scene or the “idea” of what a gay man or lesbian should “look like”.

Over the last couple of months QAHC has been collecting the opinions, views and experiences of the community about this prejudice through an online survey. The results from this survey have been used to inform the campaign and set the direction of many of the activities we have done.

During the campaign we will be holding many exciting activities and events, like a campaign launch party, art events and a photo competition.

This website will allow you to access information about prejudice, what you can do about this problem and how to support others who are experiencing it, some of the things community members have experienced, images from campaign projects and events and many other things.
