QAHC has undertaken a Clinical Health Education and Promotion (CHEAP) Project, which is primarily concerned with HIV prevention and sexual health promotion in Gay/MSM. This is a Queensland Health funded project which is auspiced by QAHC and was developed in response to rising HIV notifications among Gay/MSM.
The QAHC CHEAP Project Literature Review was written to inform the CHEAP Project by giving a broad illustration of gay/MSM behaviours and clinical HIV prevention and to examine innovative opportunities to tackle rising HIV and STI rates in Queensland. Review of Best Practice in Group Work with Gay Men The document provides an overview of the theory underpinning peer based group work with gay men, provides examples of successful group work interventions in Australia, England and the United States and reports on focus groups with gay men about their experiences of and wishes for group work. Gay Men, HIV and Health Promotion: Market Research A report of the outcomes of focus groups and interviews with gay men in Queensland about their attitudes to HIV, HIV prevention, health promotion interventions and ther role in HIV prevention. The research was conducted for QAHC by the University of the Sunshine Coast. Review of Health Promotion Opportunities at the Time of HIV Testing (Among Gay Men) This document explores the opportunities for increasing health promotion interventions at the time of receiving an HIV negative test result. It includes a brief outline of some theoretical underpinnings for different interventions and makes recommendations for future work, particularly the use of motivational interviewing approaches. Gay Men and Condom Use, Access and Experience This document provies a review of literature relating to gay men's use of, access to and experience in using condoms and lube. It also includes a report on an original online survey of over 200 Queensland gay/msm and recommendations for health promotion activities around condoms.
