Creating Inclusive Services

Healthy Communities (formally QAHC) has provided sexuality and gender identity awareness training to health and health related service providers in Queensland since 2005.  Both half-day and whole-day workshops are delivered in either open- access or in-service formats,  for a very reasonable fee.  To date Healthy Communities  has trained over 1000 service providers in Northern, Western, Central and Southern Queensland as well as interstate.  Heaelthy Communities is committed to providing a high standard of interactive and challenging adult learning experiences.  The continuing development and delivery of training tools and resources for service providers seeks to support the development of inclusive services for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) clients.

The Training Coordinator is also available as a guest speaker for an hourly fee to present on a wide range of LGBT information.

Creating Inclusive Services Workshop

This 8 hour/one day training course will provide participants with a strong and basic understanding of sexuality and gender. A social health framework is used to demonstrate how social pressures, related to sexual and gender identity, can influence the patterns of health outcomes and risk factors that influence the health and wellbeing of LGBT people. The training will also demonstrate how sexual and gender identity act as social determinants of health for LGBT people, influencing and impacting upon health and wellbeing outcomes in a similar manner to other determinants of health, such as ethnicity and geographic location. The workshop aims to raise awareness of the barriers that often affect the accessibility of services and presents a series of practical mechanisms that can support services to break down these barriers, creating inclusive service environments and work practices.

The following training packages can be adapted to meet the needs of the many different employment sectors within the community and each are either a smaller section or an adaptation of the Creating Inclusive Service Workshop
